The "I Spy" Quilts are the creation of many folk associated with BlueWillow. Once a year the staff, customers, suppliers, friends andfamily of Blue Willow get together for a truly hectic and very tiringbut also thoroughly rewarding day where will produce dozens of our "I Spy"quilts. Each I Spy quilt has at it's centre brightly coloured and extremelydetailed patches.
These quilts are then donated to the Paediatric Oncology unitat the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. Each quilt is givento a youngster attending the unit for treatment. Most of these childrenface long treatment programs to rid themselves of cancer, andin the process they generally will be spending a lot of time at thehospital.
The idea is that the children can while away someof the long hours they face in Hospital playing "I Spy" with thecharacters and scenes depicted on their quilt, often withtheir parents or nurses. Each child gets to keep their quilt, and sothe Hospital is always in need of more. They are very much appreciated bothby the kids and the staff at the hospital.
The thanks from the Children's Cancer Centre and the lovely letters from the RCH each year (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005) are wonderful, but we're sure you'll agree the real pay offis the smiles they bring to young faces, some of whom don't have much to smile about.
